Botanical Inspiration

So, I'm having a bit of a wardrobe malfunction in some of my pictures today- sorry for the gratuitous bra strap. Today's layered color scheme was inspired by a beautiful Easter orchid I picked up at Home Depot (where one often finds themselves, it seems, after moving). 

Oh! I'm working on several sewing projects which I am looking forward to sharing with you very soon.

Watching the World Go By

Mr. Not-In-Pajamas comes home from a business trip tonight.  I sure can't wait for him to come home!

Out of a Catalog

I purchased most of the pieces of this outfit straight out of a catalog. I don't wear it very often, but a sunny spring day in the low 70's seemed just the perfect reason to drag it out of the closet. It's a little dressy for my planned outings today - thrift store, fabric store, art store, lunch - but oh well. At least it's pretty and comfortable.

Gorgeous weather makes me think of spring-y colors: light greens, creams, yellows, pale pinks and lavenders. Today I feel like I'm channeling just a teeny bit of tennis instructor... Wanna go work on your serve?

How Does Your Garden Grow

Some pictures in front of the windows at the new place. I love the morning sunlight here. I can grow things again. I've missed that. (And after two/three weeks of nothing but jeans and sweatshirts for moving and cleaning, I've missed dressing up a bit too).

The Happy Sailor

Horizontal stripes always remind me of old-time sailors (and they're great for giving tall girls like me the illusion of curves!) I wish I had an anchor necklace, but I figured my octopus necklace kept the sea theme.

Movin' on up

We're all moved into our new place: a gorgeous loft in the Crossroads Art District of Kansas City. While no move is painless, ours has gone relatively well, all things considered, and I look forward to sharing my outfits again real soon. Also, I am so excited because in the new place I have enough room to set up my sewing machine. I love sewing / modifying clothing, and am happy to soon add that to the things I can share with you. 

Class is in Session

I feel like a sexy school teacher in this outfit... how fun is that! The glorious spring weather has given way to a late storm... we're suppose to get snow this weekend :( So I had to bundle up when I went out for lunch and to run errands.

Springy Sprung

I heart Yellow

Up until I thrifted that yellow sweater a few weeks ago my wardrobe had a iron-clad, long standing yellow ban. For some reason I had it in my head that yellow looked terrible on me. Now, I still don't think it's my best color, but it just makes me feel so darn happy to wear that I find I can no longer resist its siren song (and for the life of me can't imagine why I ever tried). I took a quick trip to the thrift store this morning and this lovely yellow spring frock followed me home (as did another little yellow top with flowers on it). 

Also today my new necklace from ModCloth.com arrived. I think it looks like an homage to my favorite bond movie "Octopussy", but Bear calls it my "Call of Cthulhu" necklace (he's a big H.P. Lovecraft fan).

Two Weeks 'til Moving Day

My bangs are in desperate need of a trim. Weather is AMAZING today. I went out and purchased some new makeup, and Estee Lauder was offering a free gift with purchase, so I ended up with a lot of new loot. Score! 

This shirt is one of my thrifted pieces. The sleeves require cuff links, which I don't possess, so I used some vintage earrings instead.

Dreaming of a New Place

Apparently I am drawn to white pants lately, seeing how this is the second day in a row they've found their way into my daily wear. I almost never wear this pair of pants - they're linen, so they're strictly warm weather only, and they wrinkle so quickly and badly that by the end of the day they end up looking like I picked them up off the floor. But they sure are comfortable!

Tender Loving Care

I am so in love with this green sweater! When it found it while thrifting it was in pretty sorry shape. It was heavily pilled from too many washes. But it is still a vibrant, lovely color, and I saw its potential and snapped it up. A few days later I spent about an hour working on it with my depiller, and now it has new life again (and it's such a fun color for springtime!).
