Family Friday!

Not a whole lot of fashion happening today, but we spent a great afternoon hanging out with Mr. N.I.P's nephew. He's the coolest kid I know!

Shopping Frenzy

This afternoon I fell prey to one of those buy-1-get-1-1/2 off sales and ended up buying six pairs of shoes. But the final total was only $110 for all six (which makes my ression-wise mind feel better) and I saved a whopping $60! (And as today's rather sad looking flip-flops showed, I sure needed some summer shoes).

Here's the loot:

Summer Layers

I just love the pieces in this outfit, even though they're each a bit of a pain in the you-know-where. The sweater makes me look rather flat-chested (and no woman I know wants that), and the linen pants wrinkle if you even think about sitting. But I keep wearing these pieces anyway, because they are comfortable and I love the colors.

Outfit details:
Sweater, tank and belt: Thrifted. Pants, Boston Proper. Necklace, Gifted. Shoes, Shoe Carnival (i think).

Singin' In The Rain

This dress signifies one of the things I most love about thrift store shopping: it allows me to try styles that I probably never would have invested in otherwise. This is definitely not my normal style, but you know what? I love it (and especially because it was only five bucks!!), and I am such a sucker for dresses and skirts with pockets.

Why are my feet not in any of the photos today, you ask? Because I'm wearing my giant fluffy house slippers!

Outfit Details:
Dress, Volcom (thrifted). Shirt, Old Navy. Tall Socks, Target. Necklaces, 2 gifted, one from Claire's.

Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head

It is pouring today. It's dark and stormy and there's thunder and lightening - I love it! The rain sounds so beautiful on the roof.

These are probably my very favorite shoes that I own. Unfortunately I almost never wear them.
Outfit details:
Sweater, and white lacy tank, Old Navy. Green beaded tank, Thrifted. Belt, Arden B. Jeans, Seven. Shoes, Carlos Santana.

Like It's 1999

I found this at a thrift store and it reminded me so much of the stuff I wore in the late 90's that I picked it up for pure nostalgia.

DIY: Bracelets

I made these fun bracelets in just a few hours and for only a couple of bucks each and so can you. Here's a step-by-step of how I created them.

First, I gathered supplies: wooden unfinished bracelets that I picked up for 3 bucks a piece at a local craft store, paints, a drop cloth (to protect surfaces from paint), decoupage for a glossy finish, paint brushes, and water.

Next I cleaned and dried my bracelets, then applied an undercoat of paint to both the outside and inside surfaces of the bracelets.

Then I applied the design. This one was inspired by a perfume ad:

On the next bracelet I painted some strawberries for a fun summer theme.

After the design is finished I applied several coats of decoupage to seal the piece. I used a glossy finish, but decoupage also comes in a matte finish if that is more your style.

Voila! Here are the finished bracelets.

First Friday

I live in the art district of Kansas City and every first friday of the month all the galleries open and invite everyone to come see their artwork. There are street performers, musicians, vendors, and people galore (tonight there was even a large group of people dressed up as zombies for some inexplicable reason). Mr. Not-In-Pajamas and I went out to join the festivities. Here is what I wore to mingle with 50,000 or so of my fellow Kansas Citians.

Stripes and Solids

I didn't want to wear that dress I had on earlier out, so when Mr. Not-In-Pajamas wanted to go out for dinner (his first day of solid food in over 2 weeks! YAY!) I changed into this:

Blue and Holding

Hello!

I picked up this cute little summer dress at the thrift store today. I didn't try it on, and therefore didn't quite realize just how short it is, so I don't think I'll be wearing this one out around town, but it's still fun to wear around the house (Mr. Not-in-Pajamas sure doesn't mind!).
Outfit Details:
Dress, thrifted. Shoes, can't remember. Charlotte Russe, I think.
One of the things I have been working on recently is putting together my creative area. This is where I do my writing, painting, sewing, etc. I just love this space! (I put that whole desk together by hand! It took 2 weeks, 1 replacement part, 2 trips (and 60$) at the hardware store, but it was all worth it!

Wear and Share

I've just returned from the thrift store with lots of new goodies to wear and share. Sorry for my recent absence. But I'm back and ready to play with some more fashion!

Here is a sampling of some of my new finds. I just love digging through thrift stores!
